PA lawmaker aims to boost access to after-school activities through tax credit
PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — Legislation that intends to help Pennsylvania families better afford after-school activities for their children is set to be introduced in the State Senate.
As prices continue to rise across the board, Sen. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) writes in his memo to fellow Senate members, many parents still wish for their children to play sports, learn instruments, and pursue whatever passion they may have. Many now have to choose between those beloved activities and putting food on the table or paying bills. A decision, Farry notes, parents shouldn’t have to make.
He is now proposing legislation that would give tax credits to parents of eligible children, which can go toward the costs of these activities, eliminating financial barriers many face when purchasing equipment or paying registration fees. All with the hope of increasing accessibility for families.
“As a proud parent, I understand the costs associated with raising young children. We want our kids to play all their favorite sports, learn an instrument, and pursue their passions through outside activities like scouting. We deeply desire them to grow into responsible, well-rounded, and civically engaged young adults,” Farry adds.
